Lady in SFO

Johnny and I got delayed in the San Francisco Airport for 6 hrs so we had time to leave and explore the vicinity then get back and do more sketching.  Below is a simple sketch of a lady in SFO. This is from a little over two weeks ago.

Workshop SF and sketches

Got back from San Francisco several days ago where I spent an incredible time and was an attendee at Workshop SF 2011 put together by Massive Black and their friends. Basically four days of learning and interacting with professional artists spanning all fields from commercial to fine art. Super inspiring and another push towards upping my game. Below is the flyer/image for the workshop, a hybrid of visuals from all the art monsters that taught us their tools of the trade.

For more detailed info about the work shop experience two of my art friends on the blogosphere wrote detailed accounts of their time there. You can check that out here at
Johnny's blog, and Stacy's.

Also, here is a link to a video on Vimeo about the workshop in Berlin in the summer of 2010

Below are some selections from the pages of my sketchbooks I've been using the past couple months. These were made during and in between time spent in Stillwater and Tulsa, OK, Austin, TX, and San Francisco, CA.

Whispers in the Grass

                                                                     Whispers in the Grass

And in other news... I'm now a member of the Kzany family! Cafe Kzany is an open-mic cabaret hosted by Zany Kzany which features short five minute performances that may include spoken word, musicians, monologues, random characters, and performance artists. This past October 26th there was a Cafe Kzany night in Tulsa at Living Arts. I read two short poems I recently wrote and also participated with the Drama Department and their Act.

Below is a video of the Drama Department performance I took part in, I was the lights behind the white screen.

In Stillwater there are DEERPEOPLEPeople, People, and...people. I'm one of the latter. Here's a few sketches and drawings of the people I know or have met in Stillwater, and maybe you know some of them too.

Sketches are from Stonewall Tavern, College Bar, Finnegan's Irish Pub, Aspen Coffee Company, and other random places in Stillwater, OK.     (Posted in alphabetical order)

Travel Sketches from Europe

A selection of images from my sketchbooks while I was traveling in Europe this summer.

                                                            Bern, capital of Switzerland.

I am in Bern, the bells are ringing, and the trees are singing.

The last time I visited Bern, I went to a house party with my friend Tobias, who was the bassist for the band playing that night.

                                                              Tobias ripping the bass.

And here is a music video by these guys!

Stefan, the coolest farmer I've ever met. Worked at his organic farm in southern France for a couple days.

                                                                  Lynn's friend Lisa

                                                                         To much pollen...

Met these girls from England who took part in the student riots in London.

                                                              Retiro Park, Madrid, Spain

                                                        Lucas from Sao Paulo, Brasil.

Mouser Cloud

The other day I saw a cloud that made me do a double take. I immediately ran back into my house, grabbed my camera and took a shot. The profile of this cloud looks almost exactly like these weird drawings of mice I made last Fall. Crazy!

Where the Animals Play

This past May I hitchiked to Berlin and spent a week in this teeming city. This place is so bombed with graffiti and street art and exploding with visual energy. One of my highlights to this trip was seeing one of my favorite bands, Animal Collective, play!

                                                        Where the Animals Play

                                                                     The Incredible Dance

A short poem I wrote about that night I experienced Animal Collective.

I still have my ticket! I'm currently using it as a bookmark in Letters to a Young Poet by Rainer Maria Rilke.

I was busy dancing my heart out but I managed to snap this quick photo, I was right next to the stage!

My hitchhiking partner, Lynn. :)  Although this photo was taken in Southern France.

A quick sketch of Lynn from inside the Metro...and a random guy chewing bubble gum.

The graffiti bombed area of Berlin where Animal Collective played.
                Some of that cool graffiti...

                           Animal Collective...
